Red Bull are searching nationwide for creatives working specifically in animation to enter their “Canimation” competition. The exciting comp opened its doors on the 3rd of October to any UK resident and full-time Student using or studying animation. Budding animators have to upload a two minute piece to the website in time for the looming deadline – 15.11.2011. Judges include James Farrington (Lead 3D animator for The Mill Film and TV), Merlin Crossingham (Creative Director at Aardman Animations), Dave Anderson at 12foot6 (Illustrator and Writer for works such as the Future Shocks series in 2000AD magazine), Jayne Pilling (director of the British Animation Awards), and Tom Tagholm (a celebrated short film maker, working at Channel 4’s 4Creative department).
Red Bulls comp is split in to three categories – good old Stop-Motion, CGI, and the traditional Drawn method, for both the Student and the Open entries. The only creative rule is Red Bulls blue and silver can has to take centre stage, otherwise anything goes. All the best animations will be featured on Channel 4, nationwide cinemas, and the winners get some great prizes tailored to their animation category, for both Student and Open entrants.
These prizes include a two month internship for Students entering the CGI category, at The Mill and be guided by Jimmy Farringdon, an animator with over 26 years of experience working on movies such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Where the Wild Things Are.
